The Global Game Jam is a worldwide event where thousands of games developers world wide spend 48 hours creating a game. This is the event’s first time in Galway, and Pulse College are looking forward to hosting the event in our new City Centre campus, 1 of only 4 locations in Ireland. The building will be open for 48 hours of non-stop game jamming, starting at 5pm on Friday the 23rd of January and ending at 5pm on Sunday 25th of January, so bring a sleeping bag!
Ideal for aspiring games developers, and Pulse College students, this event is an opportunity to meet fellow gamers and design, create and publish a game as part of a team. People with all kinds of backgrounds are encouraged to participate and contribute.

We spoke to one of our Games Development Course Tutors (and Indie Game Developer!) over in our Galway Campus, Chris Colston, for his thoughts ahead of the event:
“I’ve been teaching game development in Galway for nearly three years now and in that time I’ve had the great pleasure of watching the local community come together and begin to thrive. Galway is a relatively small place, and seeing a community grow over such a short space of time has been a real joy…if somewhat stressful at times!
In November, Paul Conway of Galway based DoomCube and myself organised the first Galway Game Jam to be held since early 2014 which proved to be a fantastic success, just over thirty people attended on the day, sponsorship was provided from local comic emporium Sub-City Comics and EA, who also have a local presence and who both provided prizes on the day as we watched seven teams interpret the theme of the jam in a variety of creative and inventive ways.
Alongside this we run a monthly “dev meet-up” bringing those of us active in the Industry in Galway together to discuss projects, share hints and tips and generally chat about games… all in the comfort of the pub…
Events like this provide a great opportunity for students to meet people actively working in the industry, to experience the trials and tribulations of game dev in a very short space of time or even just observe the blood, sweat and tears of the development process while chomping down on free pizza
So as both an active member of the Galway dev community and as Lecturer at Pulse I’m really excited about the Global Game Jam coming to Galway and the chance to make some awesome games!”
Check out the video below for how our students got on at the Global Game Jam at our Dublin Campus in 2014! We cannot wait to see what Chris and the guys get up to in our Galway Games Campus this year!
