COURSE CONTENT

Are you a professional 2D animator looking to upskill in Toon Boom Harmony, are you an animation graduate looking for experience in industry standard software and practices, or are you a beginner looking to find out more about 2D Animation industry practices? If so this is the course for you! This ten week Harmony course suits 2D Animators looking to both break into and upskill for industry or people who wish to learn about animation workflow in both tradigital and cut out animation.

Learn how to take the traditional approach in harmony using its wide array of benefits to take your animation from a rough pass to clean up seamlessly. Learn industry workflows with rigged models working pose to pose and making use of Harmony’s advanced graph editors to work smarter and faster. Discover animating 2D images in a 3D environment and taking your scenes all the way from reference to final export. Learn how the rigging process saves studio’s time and budget, learning how to design, build, template, problem solve, organise and troubleshoot your rigs to master your workflow.

After ten weeks students will be leaving with a complete knowledge of Harmony, 3 showreel ready pieces, a fully functional rig of their design for their portfolio and a complete understanding of industry standard workflow. Pulse College will provide all licences for this course.

Introduction to Tradigital Animation

Week Two

Traditional workflow rough to clean up

Week Three

Understanding colour in Harmony and exporting for comp

Week Four

Rigs, Node view, importing and using reference, body mechanics and understanding the graph editor

Week Five

Lip sync and rig navigation

Week Six

Adding to existing rigs, character acting, finding work as a 2D Animator

Week Seven

Animation Recap, finalising scenes, final animation feedback

Week Eight

Creating Rig templates, navigating node view, groups, getting organised, creating colour palettes, line art in Harmony

Week Nine

Mouth charts, cutter nodes, creating eye and brow cutter nodes

Week Ten

Auto patches, pivots, deformers, alternate deformer chains, kinematic outputs

Tutor – Ruaidhri O’Shea

Ruaidhri O’Shea is an animation director, 2D animator, motion designer and from County Meath. With over a decade experience working in industry with companies and studios such as; Treehouse Republic, Giant Animation, Keg Kartoonz, Zulleon, Algorithm and more. Ruaidhri has been teaching here in Pulse for five years and is certified in education, learning and development. He is a dedicated teacher and enjoys supporting and facilitating the growth of Ireland’s incredible animation community as well as supporting the European Super Smash Brothers Melee community in his free time.

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in Animation. No previous experience is required.
